Prenatal FISH

Prenatal FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization) is a targeted molecular cytogenetic test used to quickly identify the presence or absence of specific chromosomes or chromosomal regions in fetal cells.
It uses fluorescently labelled DNA probes that bind to particular chromosomes, allowing for visual detection under a fluorescence microscope.
Clinical Uses:
When fast confirmation of a chromosomal disorder is needed (e.g., advanced maternal age, abnormal ultrasound, positive NIPT)
To confirm sex chromosome disorders
As part of emergency prenatal diagnosis decisions
